Almost famous

(a song dedicated to ma)

When there trouble around,

There is no sound

Without u I don’t know

Whether I do stand any ground.

When tensions come,

and problems do hound

its in you and only you

That I have solace found.

I don’t know how you do it,

I don’t know how you work it

But one thing is for sure

And for everybody to see

I am there for you and

You are there for me

You simply make me almost famous

You simply make me almost famous

A DROP OF LOVE……………………………………………..

The complete story

(Ramesh was what everybody wanted to be….a civil engineer from a typical Brahmin family, smart ,handsome and yes ready for marriage. So the search for the Mrs right began. And it did not take much time .It never does. Anoushka (a south Indian Brahmin) was educated, beautiful and yes homely. A date was fixed and the great Indian wedding took place. You would say this is perfect. But just when everything sounds perfect …enter God and his plans….and we can’t do much about it .

ON the 7th day (after their marriage) Anoushka very reluctantly told Ramesh that she had detected a small inflammation on her right breast which was paining for the last three hours. A doctor was called immediately , he suggested a blood test , and a biopsy test .On the 9th day the inflammation and the pain was gone for good Normalcy was restored. And life was beautiful again .WONDERFUL .

CHAPTER 1.

Ramesh could not wait to tell the news. As he was walking up the stairs he could not believe it. A promotion so early, now he was the team leader of his project team .But when he entered the dining room he sensed there was some problem. Amma (his mother) looked at him as if someone had just robbed the house. “Amma what happened ?” Ramesh asked . “You ask her.” she said. The you was obvious: Anoushka. But as he was entering his room he could still hear amma shouting.”itni badi baat humse chipa ke rakhi”(they hid such an important fact from us). When he entered he found Anoushka crying.“ Anoushka what happened? ”,he said. Anoushka looked up.It was as if a child had done something wrong and was waiting to tell the teacher about it. As she stood up she handed Ramesh a paper. She did not say anything .Ramesh looked at the paper. Amidst the medical jargon his eyes fell on the imperative words that made sense. RESULT: MALIGNANCY DETECTED.FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE TUMOUR ADVICED.

He looked at Anoushka. She had been crying , he was sure of that. Who could associate cancer with her…but there she was looking at Ramesh as if waiting for a verdict .As if to say. “Whatever you decide will be my future , but I have hidden nothing from you”. Ramesh approached Anoushka. He could feel tears blocking her vision .And then Ramesh tore the report and threw it away, hugged Anoushka tightly and said, “ I will not let anything happen to you, believe me .” She started crying harder. He hugged her more tightly .They did not sleep that night. Love is a strange thing ….. it gives you a feeling that you can fight anybody . Even God.And yes sometimes the feeling is not that misplaced.

Chapter 2

It took a little bit of time to get used to the new circumstances. ‘ Amma took the longest. It was as if they had realized that they would never be the same ‘ happy’ family ( which included Ramesh’s brother and his wife, their child sonu and Amma) again and so each one learned to live with whatever they had . A compromise for sure but under the circumstances , the best solution.

The tests were regularly conducted at the Tarapur Cancer Research Centre. It was the injections that were taking a toll on Anoushka. In three months the effect of chemotherapy started to show .Anoushka lost 13 kilos in this period lost a whole lot of hair, but somehow she was always made to feel special by Ramesh. Infact the last card Ramesh gave her( along with a necklace) said “ To the woman who is making me crazier by the day “. After moments like these, Anoushka just go to the bathroom ,cry a little and then she was prepared to fight out the next bout of injections .

One day Ramesh and Anoushka went to the market . Anoushka was weak but the doctor had insisted on keeping her daily routine as intact as possible. After buying the vegetables as she was walking a tomato just fell off the carry bag. Anouska ran after it not seeing a bike was heading towards her. It was a close save. But the tomato got crushed. Ramesh was furious. He shouted at the top of his voice. ”Are you blind. It was a tomato for gods sake!”. He had never shouted at Anoushka before. That night Anoushka did not come to eat with the family. As Ramesh entered their room he saw a tear trickle down Anoushka cheek. She had not talked with him the whole day. He went near her. She did not look at him.

“ Do you know Anoushka why I was mad at you today?” she did not respond. He took her hand and gazed at it. She wanted to take it back , but she could not. “ You know I can think of many shops which can give me another tomato but I cannot think of one place which can give me another Anoushka “.

For a moment she did not know what to say. She just looked at him and remarked “ I guess I never thought of that .“

“ I think of it every time I see you” remarked Ramesh . it was hard to tell who started crying first. That whole night they did not sleep.

Next day , the chemotherapy session surprised Dr. Ashok Handa.

“I wonder how she is responding so well, I never changed the medicines.” he said.

Little did he realize that Anoushka was being administered a far more potent drug……… LOVE.

CHAPTER 3

“ But I don’t want to change the doctor” exclaimed Ramesh.

“Believe me he is the best we have got.” remarked Dr. Ashok Handa, “ you are lucky. He was teaching our interns when he saw your wife’s report . He immediately wanted to handle the case.”

Reluctantly Ramesh took the file and test report to the cabin he was directed.Dr. Arvind Swami. He had heard his name before.

It was after seeing the reports that Dr. Swami remarked “ Dr. Ashok says you were not keen on me .”

Ramesh hesitated. “ Actually I just thought that he knows the case a lot better.”

“ True , true I agree with you on that. He is my student. He says you love your wife a lot.”

A rhetorical question? Ramesh refrained from answering.

“Now Ramesh tell me frankly ,don’t you feel unlucky? I mean so young and so much trouble.”

“ I don’t mind the trouble . The pain Anoushka has during the sessions hurts me more.”

“ But don’t you feel betrayed?” Dr. Swami asked. Why is he asking me these questions ,Ramesh thought.

“ No I feel I am the luckiest person to have Anoushka.” said Ramesh.

“ Let me be very clear with you. I have seen Anoushka’s case . Breast amputation is the only way out. I have heard this love trash a lot of times beforefrom men who claim to be true lovers. Their attitude changes after the operation. Do I make myself clear”

Ramesh stood up. “ I don’t know what do you mean by telling me all this. But let me tell you, the day I saw Anoushka I committed myself to her . she is all that I wanted from God. I don’t care if she loses her breast , her eyes , her limbs….. I love her for what she is.”

As he turned to walk away ,above the door he saw a picture with a garland on it. Had it not been for the short hair, the girl in the picture could easily have been mistaken for Anoushka, the face , the eyes, everything sort of matched perfectly.

Ramesh looked at Dr. Swami and said, “ She looks like….”

“ Anoushka,”Dr. Swami said, “ She does. She is Pratiksha, my daughter. I was operating a patient in this very room when she died in the operating theater above. It was a car accident .” He could not talk anymore.

That night Ramesh received an email. It did not have a name but he understood. It ran ” I lost my daughter earlier. I am not going to lose her now. She will live. We will make sure of that.”

CHAPTER 4

Five years have passed. Friends of Anoushka would say she had aged. But there are some people who are just thankful to see her alive and healthy.

Every week Anoushka goes to Dr. Swami once in a while with some new food item that she seems to conjure out from somewhere. She calls him “Appa”.

Dr. Swami did not charge for Anoushka’s treatment. But I don’t think he is complaining. After all he may have lost a patient but he gained a daughter.

LEADER BY DEFAULT OR RATHER BY FAULT , RAHUL GANDHI : CONGRESSES’ HOPE FOR 2014 OR B.J.P’S BEST BET ?

MAY 3 , 2009: “ We won’t trade N-deal for Left’s support.”

MAY 5 , 2009: “ I think the Left will support a Manmohan Singh government.”

Its as if Rahul Gandhi wakes up every morning with almost no recollection of what he spoke the last day ( I call it the GHAJINI syndrome). Rahul Gandhi according to me is the fifth most boring speaker in the present Indian political scene ( his mother tops the list with Mayawati finishing a close second). But even I had some respect for his political acumen. Well Mr. Rahul Gandhi , you have dashed them all with your recent statements.

The fact is Congress realizes that it will not be able to gather the numbers for Manmohan Singh to be the next prime minister( or pseudo P.M). So Rahul Gandhi made a candid statement to reach out to some prospective allies. Infact he said that the Congress may look to join hands with Nitish Kumar’s J.D.U , Jaya Lalita’s A.I.A.D.M.K. and Chandra babu Naidu’s T.D.P. Let me Pranay Tiwari , a political novice explain to Mr. Rahul Gandhi why he has got it all wrong.

1) Dear Rahul, Nitish Kumar ( albeit his differences with Mr. Modi) will never support U.P.A. because it needs B.J.P support in Bihar without which it will cease to have a majority . Sadly the Congress with its dwindling base in Bihar cannot offer that kind of insurance. Moreover Nitish’s support will guarantee a divorce with Laloo Prasad Yadav.

2) Mr. Rahul, tying up with Jaya Lalitha’s A.I.A.D.M.K would mean distancing yourself from Karunanidhi’s D.M.K . I do not think that can be easily done.

3) Third if you somehow manage to get Left’s support ( using the often abused secular pretext) you lose a key partner in Bengal, Mamta Banerjee.

Moreover it would mean cheating the people of Kerela where Congress and the Left are in direct confrontation.

4) And finally Mr. Rahul, you praise Chandra Babu Naidu’s work in Andhra Pradesh when your chief minister Y.S.Reddy is fighting a tough battle there. It does not work that way .

Those having a soft corner for Rahul Gandhi would say that it is precisely this innocence of his that is heart touching. I say that there are times when you need to differentiate the subtle line between innocence and naivety . Mr. Rahul Gandhi I am afraid, is hovering around the latter.

That’s the problem with dynastic politics. It gives you a politician but fails to ensure that he is a leader. I hope the day never comes when Rahul Gandhi becomes our P.M. Why? Even I am a better candidate than him. And why should I doubt my chances. After all politics is the art of the possible, ideology be damned.

Korchee lorchee tobe keno haarchee re ???????(by pranay tiwari)

What made Sharukh Khan ( SRK) choose these words as his team slogan? Confidence . Well that confidence is dead and buried now . Knightriders are languishing at the bottom of the points table in this year’s IPL with just three points (two of them against Kings 11 Punjab in a rain curtailed match). Let me make myself clear I am not a KKR team fan, ( my team is Royal Challengers Bangalore)but I know that a lot of my very good friends are, and I feel for them. So what made the promising KKR team such a dud. Lets analyse .

REASON 1, SELF BELIEF AND TEAM SPIRIT( or rather the lack of it). Who is responsible for the drooping shoulders ? Team director John Buchanan . First came his multiple captain theory . Then came the mysterious blog writer who spilled the beans ( BELIEVE ME , IT WAS NOT ME!). This created such a controversy that each team member was personally questioned regarding this. . When Sourav Ganguly was questioned naturally he fumed. Third was the return of Aakaash chopra and Sanjay Bangar. No player is allowed to worry about his performance. Everybody is lost in the thought that what can be the ‘Bosses’ next move. There are reports that Buchanan does not talk to players who perform badly , that he is more of a ‘laptop’ person, that he is busy employing all his useless Victorian friends as the team support staff ( read coach Matthew Mott and et al) whose number once exceeded 11. I think SRK needs to share some of the blame for giving Buchanan a free hand . And I guess he too realises his mistake. No wonder he is looking for buyers to share the ‘LIABILITY’ of 300 crores. Also notice how the new Sprite ad ( Opposition ko haraane ke liye daraana padta hai sir) has been clipped .SRK understands nobody fears his team now.

REASON 2, LEADERSHIP. First thing first Ganguly is not the best captain of the world …… but Macullum is worse. One splendid innings ( at last years inaugural versus Bangalore) does not highlight a person’s batting skills let alone his captaincy prowess. His move to use Mendis in the super over ( was it really his move?) instead of Ishant Sharma shows he has much to learn . Even his batting seems to have suffered . Macullum has already expressed the desire to quit if asked . A good captain is one who not only leads by example but is also ready to fight the tough times. I think Ganguly was far better in the latter if not the former.

REASON 3, BAD TEAM. Lets not get to hyper about this reason. I never believed KKR had the arsenal to win the IPL. The team is just not right . Buchanan has said that he is missing the likes of Ponting. For heavens sake….. (what is it about the Aussies that forces them to turn a blind eye to all good things that are non Australian. ) Ponting’s performance was miserable last year.Anyways my point is Sanjay Bangar and Aakaash Chopra are not T20 material and it does not require an Einstien to figure that. And now sacking them makes the team management look all the more silly. Its like expecting two wrong to make a right . well Mr. Buchanan …it does not. Also the bowling and fielding looks jittery .

To conclude, some one said to me a good team is not necessarily about great players . Its about a lot of other things which I guess Buchanan will never be able to find out because it cannot be stored in a laptop. This year’s IPL is lost. Next year Sharukh Khan needs to come up with a new team , a new team management and yes a new team slogan please KORBO LORBO JEETBO just does not inspire anymore . Infact it petrifies. Does it not Mr . Buchnan?
